The “Shukhov Tower” Foundation has appealed to the President of Russia Dmitry Anatoljevich Medvedev with the proposal of establishing in Moscow the “Museum of oil, gas and pipeline transport of Russia”. The appealing letter was signed by: Victor Stepanovich Chernomyrdin, Honored leader of gas industry and former head of the Government of Russia, Russia’s ambassador in the Ukraine, Albert Iljich Vladimirov, rector of RGU for oil and gas, Vladimir Fyodorovich Shukhov, President of the “Shukhov Tower” Foundation, Leonid Mikhailovich Shtern, corresponding member of the Russian Federation’s ATF. The appeal was supported by Nickolay Pavlovich Laverov, Vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The order from the executive director of the Vyksa metallurgical works (OJSC “VMZ”), member of the Joint Metallurgical company (CJSC “OMK”), started the pre-investment stage of the social-cultural project “The Shukhov’s heritage”, the purpose of which is the restoration and preservation of the unique lattice overhead covers of the ancient sheet-rolling shop built according to the project of the remarkable Russian engineer and architect, the academician Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov.

On August 28 Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov, the Great engineer, architect and scientist was 155. In December this year there will be 130 to the first Russian oil pipeline built by V.G. Shukhov from the Baku oil fields to the oil refinery of Nobel brothers’ oil company. V.G. Shukhov developed the main technical principles of designing and operating of pipelines which are still used nowadays. The lattice case of overhead covers and hyperboloid lattice towers-cases created and patented by Shukhov in 1896 are used in XXI century all over the world.

On August 1, 2008 Dmitry Anatoljevich Medvedev, Russia’s President visited the town of Myshkin located on the picturesque bank of the Volga River. The motor ship “Russia” moored to the Myshkin”s berth in the early evening. Dmitry Anatoljevich looked with an interest at the central part of the ancient and distinctive town with the intact pre-Revolutionary architecture and communicated with town dwellers. The town’s attractions were shown to the President by Anatoly Gennadjevich Kuritsyn, head of the Myshkin municipal area and his officers.

The “Shukhov Tower” Foundation considers it necessary to draw attention of the public, of the administrative and commercial bodies to the state protection and restoration of a few memorials of industrial architecture located in Krasnodar region. The memorials of industrial culture emphasize the noble contribution of Russia to the development of North Caucasus, they are the tourist places of attraction and their significance becomes especially high in connection with the winter Olympic Games to be held in the city of Sochi.

On June 12 the presentation of the “Garage” Center of modern culture (CCC-Moscow Garage) was held in the gigantic building of the former Bakhmetjev bus park. The garage was built in 1926-1927 under the project of the great architects Konstantin Melnikov and Vladimir Shukhov and is a rare memorial of the constructivism architecture. The Bakhmetjev garage was restored by the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia. The CCC-Moscow garage project is financed by Roman Abramovich and is supervised by Darya Zhukova.

On March 19 there will be 86 years since the TV and radio tower in Shabolovka, Moscow was put into operation. During the last year the organizations responsible for preservation of the memorial of architecture of not only Russian but also of a world heritage did nothing to restore the lattice hyperboloid tower-shell and to turn it into a full-value tourist object. At the same time the steel construction continues to destroy slowly an soon may be completely lost!
